Cardiac Care Accessible to Every Floridian — Insured or Not
Trusted by Florida Families for More Than 25 Years
Dr. Qamar is the most caring physician I have ever been to. He took the best care of both of my parents for over 20 years. When I experienced my own cardiac issues, he was the only choice for me. Extremely knowledgeable, excellent at explaining everything, and uniquely empathetic.

More than 20 Years of Family Cardiac Care
Dr. Qamar saved my life. I had dilated cardiomyopathy and was an athlete — no one saw it coming. He had a defibrillator and pacemaker implanted. I have had nine shocks from it, but I would not be alive if he had not acted when he did. He also saved my son’s life after a widowmaker heart attack

Life Saved Twice — A Father and His Son
He saved my father’s life. I am forever grateful we found him to perform a procedure other doctors said could not be done. He is calm, skilled, and his bedside manner is beyond compare. No one is better at saving lives and genuinely caring about the patient as a human being.

A Procedure Other Doctors Said Was Impossible
My daughter had a heart rhythm disorder and we did not have insurance. We were never charged. The care was exceptional. Dr. Qamar is an outstanding human being with a big heart who really cares — not about money, but about his patients.

No Insurance. No Barrier. No Bill.
If it was not for this amazing cardiologist, my spouse would be in bad shape. He goes above and beyond for me and my family. Cardiology care is just as important as going to your primary care doctor. Do not wait until it is too late. Best cardiologist in Ocala, Florida.”

Above and Beyond — For the Whole Family
Dr. Mustapha performed his first peripheral vascular limb-salvage treatment more than a decade ago — preventing the amputation of the leg of a 52-year-old woman suffering from severe peripheral artery disease. That case became the beginning of a clinical mission that has since helped hundreds of patients avoid amputations that other physicians had declared inevitable. When you save someone’s leg, you are often saving their life.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cardiology Care at FHVI
In most cases, no. Florida Heart & Vascular Institute accepts direct patient appointments without a referral. If your insurance plan requires a referral for specialist visits, check your policy first — but you can also call us at (352) 572-7730 and our team will help you confirm coverage.
Yes. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most major commercial insurance plans. For a full list of accepted insurers or to verify your coverage before your appointment, call (352) 572-7730 or visit our Patient Resources page.
Yes, for patients with active or recently resolved cardiac symptoms — including chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeat. Call (352) 572-7730 and request an urgent cardiology evaluation. If your symptoms are severe or ongoing, call 911 immediately.
Your first visit begins with a review of your symptoms, medical history, family history, and current medications. Your cardiologist will then perform a physical examination and may order an EKG, blood work, or additional diagnostic tests. You will receive a clear explanation of findings and a recommended plan before you leave.
A new patient cardiology consultation typically takes 45-60 minutes. If diagnostic tests such as an EKG, echocardiogram, or stress test are performed at the same visit, plan for 2-3 hours.
An interventional cardiologist performs minimally invasive procedures — such as coronary angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement — to treat blocked arteries and coronary artery disease. FHVI’s interventional cardiologists perform these procedures in our own accredited cath lab, without the need for a hospital transfer.
An electrophysiologist is a cardiologist who specialises in diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders — including atrial fibrillation (AFib), arrhythmia, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), and conditions requiring pacemaker or ICD implantation. If you have been told you have an irregular heartbeat or heart rhythm problem, an electrophysiologist is the appropriate specialist.
In many cases, yes. FHVI’s peripheral vascular team, led by Dr. Jihad Mustapha, has helped hundreds of patients avoid amputations using minimally invasive limb-salvage procedures. Even if another physician has told you that amputation is unavoidable, we encourage you to call us for a second opinion.
Common reasons to schedule a cardiology evaluation include: chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, palpitations or irregular heartbeat, family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, unexplained fatigue or dizziness, or leg pain when walking (which may indicate peripheral artery disease). If in doubt, call us — a brief conversation with our clinical team can help you decide.
